We've gathered a few stories and "I remember..." thoughts about Royal Kwantlen Park and the surrounding neighborhood. Read about Midnight Swimming, the treehouse, the parties, good times and a crime or two.
We're always listening for interesting stories and memories. Send us your Kwantlen tale so we can share it with others.
A letter from a visitor with fond memories of the park during the 70’s:
Hi Randy,
I fondly remember living in Surrey. I spent most of my years growing up in North Surrey and remember Kwantlen
Park, the wonderful paths in the forest and of course the pool. When I was 9 and 10 years old ( 1974 to 1976) I lived
in the St Helen's apts., I loved being able to go to Kwantlen Park to swim for FREE and wander through the trails in
the forest. In those days (can you imagine?) my friend and I would head off to the park and pool alone sometimes
being gone for the whole day. Life for children was so much more care free in those days.
It frustrates me when individuals make negative comments about Surrey, as I mentioned, it was a great place to grow up in the 1970s. I explain to individuals that it was wonderful because we had many amenities for the young such as many parks, free swimming in the summer, Surrey Recreation Centre to swim in the winter and skate, and finally we had Stardust roller rink. I am thankful for all the amenities it kept my friends and I occupied, provided physical exercise, and kept us out of trouble.
Thanks for the website.
Melanie
