We've gathered a few stories and "I remember..." thoughts about Royal Kwantlen Park and the surrounding neighborhood. Read about Midnight Swimming, the treehouse, the parties, good times and a crime or two.
We're always listening for interesting stories and memories. Send us your Kwantlen tale so we can share it with others.
I saw your history site about Kwantlen Park. I attended KB Woodward Elementary in the 1960s and went to West Whalley Junior High in the early 1970s. You did not attend West Whalley Junior High, you survived. Any teacher that had any self respect or ambition to teach in a proper school got themselves transferred. Most of what was left were the burned-out, the bad and the psychos of Surrey's teacher pool. One of the school's respected students, an all Canadian type of kid heavily involved in many school activities and a sports hotshot, was also the school's drug dealer (with underlings). So I do not have any fond memories of that school.
Incidentally, when they were ready to replace this school, they blew it up while doing a remake of the film Carrie. My buddy, who had also attended West Whalley said "I hope the real demons in there don't interfere with the movie demons too much as they are filming"
