Kwantlen Park is popular with Surrey walkers and joggers. There's many routes to take and many distances to do. I've gathered up some possibilities and calculated the mileage for them. If you want to do 10K for your training, find out how far that gym teacher made you run or just like to know how long the evening stroll you take is, here's some numbers for you.
You can locate the facilities on our large park map. They're all listed on the left side of the map page.
Following 104 Ave, Old Yale Rd. and 106 Ave on the sidewalk with the fourth side being the grass and gravel east edge of the park, between it and the schools. It does include a bit of residential area along 106 but gives you easy walking, pleasant views and an idea of the extent of the park. Walking northwest on Old Yale is my favorite section. Grass, trees in the park and don't miss the private treehouse about halfway along.
Suitable for everyone, this is all sidewalk with very mild inclines. Park in the lot on Old Yale and take the sidewalk east towards the playground, tennis courts and pool. A left turn at the playground will take you to the concession stand but for some unknown reason the sidewalk stops there. Turn right instead, towards 104 Avenue and Surrey's Firehall 2. You can find some interesting public art on the firehall's side wall and front yard. Turn right, down 104 Ave. to Old Yale and the parking lot. The sidewalk may have a large puddle right at the parking lot end after it rains a lot.
For something a bit softer, you can follow the grassy edge of the park. Starting at the Old Yale parking, walk on the grass edge up to the forested area. Turn right and follow the grass around the edge of the forest until you reach the parking lot on 106 Avenue. Keep following the edge until you're at the pool. Cut through between the pool and firehall, over to 104 Ave. and back to the Old Yale parking lot.
Try either Allweather field, once around. 3 times is almost a kilometer, 5 times is almost a mile.
Start on 104 Ave. at the sidewalk between the tennis courts and the firehall. Go past the concession stand and continue towards 106 Ave. to pick up the path again. Turn right at 106 Avenue and right again at the park/school border. Straight back to 104 Avenue and another right will bring you back to the start.
The forested area has multiple routes with a fine gravel or mulch surface. Cool, green and inviting on a hot day. A great place to take a casual walk in the woods or dash like a deer if that's your fun. You'll have to figure the milage.
If you're wondering how you can figure out your route's distance, Google Maps is an easy way to go. At Google Maps click on My Maps and then the Distance Measurement Tool. Metric or Imperial, your choice.
