We've gathered a few stories and "I remember..." thoughts about Royal Kwantlen Park and the surrounding neighborhood. Read about Midnight Swimming, the treehouse, the parties, good times and a crime or two.
We're always listening for interesting stories and memories. Send us your Kwantlen tale so we can share it with others.
We moved here 25 or so years ago. It was our first house (turned out to be the only one so far) and we had a house warming party to show it off a bit. Seemed like everyone we knew turned up, bearing gifts and congratulations on being a homeowner, ready to christen the new house.
It's a warm, early summer evening, everybody's having fun and I'm talking to my friend Tony about the new house. Yeah, we're happy about buying the house, got a lot of plans for it. Nope, we haven't met any of the neighbours yet, hope they're nice.
"Didn't bring you a housewarming gift but I've got an idea" he says, "I'm going to introduce you to them". Huh?? How you going to do that, Tony? He smiles and steps out the front door. Next thing I know he's got his shirt and pants off and is working on his underwear. Off he goes, running up and down the street, looping through the park for good measure, naked, shouting and laughing all the way. Half the guests were outside and laughing with him by the time he got back to our yard. Oh man, nothing like making the neighbours wonder what kind of yahoos have moved in next door.
Still, it put a smile on my face. Like Tony himself, it was a very unique kind of gift. Certainly something I've remembered far longer the most of the other gifts and comments. My neighbours turned out to be better than nice, they're great. Never heard anything about that run or the loud party as I met them in the following weeks.
A couple of years after, I was talking to a neighbour's teenage daughter and she mentioned it. Her and a friend had been coming home and saw this naked guy streak past, waving, with a big smile on his face. Apparently it gave them quite a giggle and a good story for friends at school the next day.
